Biology students can pursue concentrations in biomedical sciences, ecology/environmental biology and teaching certification. It is the goal of the program to provide the foundations upon which students can build. All seniors in the biology and environmental science departments are required to take a comprehensive examination that encompasses all core-required courses for the degree.
Hands-on field study is provided through lab work as well as study trips abroad and summer courses taught by Averett faculty at the Humboldt Field Research Institute in Steuben, Maine.
