I knew that I wanted to achieve my college degree in education. I quickly found, however, that returning to school as a full-time student was not so easy.  You see, I have a lot of responsibilities: two children, a husband, and many community roles including PTA president. Yes – there were some hard times, but I never looked back or wondered if I had made the right decision to come to Averett to pursue my degree.

I quickly discovered that the Office of Student Success was the place to go for assistance.
Mary Vanderlinden introduced me to the Academic Resource Center, and guided me in developing good study skills. She did whatever it took to help me, including loaning me a book, giving me a snack, and even giving me a tissue from time to time!

I never gave up … and ended up with a successful first semester!

A word to my fellow students: College is hard work, but don’t ever give up!  Go to the Office of Student Success for support and encouragement.
