NASA selected Averett's aeronautics program to manage the Virginia Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS) program.

 

Averett's athletic training faculty developed a training program used by the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots and other professional teams and athletes.

Founded in 1859 as a school for young women, Averett grew to a fully accredited, co-educational, four-year college in 1971. Today, the university attracts students from 30 states and 15 foreign countries and offers degree programs at more than 25 Virginia locations.
