Institutional Grants

Trustee Scholarship
Entering full-time freshmen may qualify for this competitive full tuition scholarship based on high school GPA, SAT or ACT scores, curriculum and extracurricular activities. Minimum criteria: 3.50 GPA, 1250 SAT Reading and Math score or 28 Composite ACT.

All Trustee applicants must be accepted to the university prior to February 15, 2009. The Scholarship Committee will review all files and invite finalists to campus on Feb. 28, 2009.

Presidential Scholarship – $10,000 to $11,000
This merit-based scholarship is awarded to students who have displayed very strong academics as well as extracurricular activities and is renewable on an annual basis.

Dean’s Scholarship – $8,000 to $9,000
This merit-based scholarship is awarded to students with strong college preparatory coursework and is renewable on annual basis.

Founders Award – $6,000 to $6,500
This merit-based scholarship is awarded to students recognizing their quality academic preparation and is renewable on an annual basis.

University Award - $3,000 to $5,000
This merit-based scholarship is based on an evaluation of academic performance and is renewable on an annual basis.

Averett Scholars Award - $2,000
This award goes to students from Virginia or North Carolina who have a high school GPA of 3.0 and SAT score of 1000 (reading and math score) or ACT composite of 21.  This award is in addition to your merit-based scholarship.

Averett University Assistance Grant
Full-time undergraduate students with proven financial need are eligible. This award is available to all applicants who complete and submit the FAFSA.

Averett Award
This is a renewable non need-based incentive grant for full-time first-time/transfer students whose legal residency is outside of North Carolina and Virginia.  Interested students must complete the Averett Application for Admission.

North Carolina Award
This is a renewable incentive grant for full-time students whose legal residency is North Carolina. Complete the Averett Application for Admission.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
Scholarships in the amount of $1000 are awarded to community college students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa. Students must be enrolled in a Traditional Program. Scholarships may be renewed with a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or above.

Ministerial Tuition Discounts
Full-time students who are sons or daughters of ministers or students preparing for church-related vocations are eligible for this renewable award. Amount: $400 (resident students), $200 (commuters).

Graduate of Merit Scholarship
Pittsylvania County Graduates of Merit may qualify for a $500 annual scholarship. To learn more about the Pittsylvania County Graduate of Merit program visit PSCB Graduate of Merit Program at www.pcs.k12.va.us/merit/index.html.

Private Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded based on criteria such as academic achievement, citizenship, or special skills and talents. Students will be automatically considered for all privately endowed Averett Scholarships. No additional application is required. Preview our private scholarship list.

Federal Grants

Pell Grant
Undergraduate students with proven financial need may be eligible. The amount of this award is up to $4,731. A FAFSA must be completed and filed to be eligible.

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
Full-time, first or second year undergraduate students may qualify. The student must be a U.S. citizen and a Federal Pell Grant recipient who has completed a rigorous high school program (rigorous defined by each state). First year award: $750, Second Year: $1,300 (with a 3.0 GPA)

National SMART Grant
Full-time third and fourth year undergraduate students may qualify. The student must be a U.S. citizen and a Federal Pell Grant recipient. The student must be enrolled in: Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Designated Critical or Foreign Languages. Award amount: $4000 (with a 3.0 GPA).

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
Full-time or half-time undergraduate students with exceptional financial need who could not attend university otherwise are eligible. Amount: $200-$2,000. Eligibility for this grant is determined by completing the FAFSA.

State Grants

Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG)
Full-time domiciled residents of Virginia attending a private university in Virginia are eligible. Amount: Determined each year by Virginia's General Assembly (2008-09: $3,200). Download an application and return it to Averett prior to July 31.

College Scholarship Assistance Program (CSAP)
Virginia residents with proven financial need will be considered. Amount: $400 –1,000. Eligibility for this program is determined by completing the FAFSA.

Two-Year College Transfer Grant
Be a first-time entering freshman no earlier than summer 2007. Be a full-time undergraduate in-state student. Completed an Associate’s degree at a Virginia two-year public institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. Complete the FAFSA and have financial need: defined as a federally calculated EFC of 8,000, or less. Maximum annual standard award is $1,000 ($500 per term). Additional $1,000 ($500 per term) for students enrolled into a degree program in: engineering, mathematics, nursing, teaching, or science.
