Special Collections Averett Archives Papers from the Office of the President and chief administrative officers are transferred periodically to the library. Policies established by the administration govern access to those materials. The library also collects faculty and university publications, Averett historic treasures, publications by and about students and alumni, and sources on Danville and Pittsylvania County history. Most materials collected on Averett, local, and Baptist history are accessible to the public by appointment with a reference librarian. Averett History A pictorial history of Averett from its origins in the Danville Female Institute in 1854, through the transition to Averett University in 2001, is on permanent display at the Mary B. Blount Library. Mrs. Clara Fountain compiled the exhibit from archival photographs and documents. You can also view this exhibit online: Averett Traditions
