2. Find Books

Search the Averett Library Catalog and the WorldCat database to locate books on the most important concept in your topic statement. A broad search on a word or phrase may find a book that covers several aspects.

Use the pull down menu in the Averett Library Catalog to perform a "SUBJECT" search. If the catalog does not find books with your subject term, search the same word or phrase in the "KEYWORD" index, or click on "Search as Words."

Location and
Status

Click on a book title to see its full record in the catalog. Note the "LOCATION" and "STATUS" information.

If books are in the "Circulating Collection" and "Available," GPS students at regional sites can request that they be shipped to a home or business address. You will have to pay the postage to mail the book back to the library when you are finished with it. Use the Interlibrary Loan Book Form to request shipping on the next business day. You will be asked to authenticate your identity with your last name and Averett ID number. If the book you want is in the "Reference" collection," contact the library for assistance.

Electronic Books

Before connecting to electronic books in the library catalog, establish your NetLibrary account by completing the Create Account Form. If you are not on the campus network, you will be asked to authenticate your identity with your last name and Averett ID number. Create your NetLibrary username and password. Now you can access electronic books from the Averett Library Catalog when you are away from campus by using your personal NetLibrary account.

Remote Access
All subscription databases and restricted forms require authentication with your last name and Averett ID number for remote access. Contact the library if you do not know where to find your ID number.

The WorldCat database indexes millions of library books, recordings, scores, maps, web sites and media titles. You do not need to specify a library. Use the Interlibrary Loan Book Form to request the material. We will identify a lending library and contact you when the material is shipped.
