Click on a book title to see its full record in the catalog. Note the "LOCATION" and "STATUS" information.
If books are in the "Circulating Collection" and "Available," you can find them on the upper or lower floors of Blount Library by Library of Congress Classification. "Juvenile" books are in the Children's Literature Collection on the upper floor. "Reference" books are on the main floor. Ask at the Circulation Desk for titles in the "Media Collection."
Library of Congress Call numbers are alphanumeric. The letters file alphabetically, with A-H on the upper level, and J-Z on the lower level of the library. The first letters and numbers denote a specific subject, as you can see from browsing the Library of Congress Classification Outline.
PN171 (Language and Literature / Authorship)
.F56 (Decimal number: F .56)
L56 (This is also a decimal number.)
2004
The first number (171 in this example) is a whole number. The second and third numbers are decimal numbers. This will start to make sense when you get to the library stacks, where those letters are shelved alphabetically within each subject, and the decimal numbers are interfiled:
.F525
.F56
.F562
.F58
.G225
.G3
If you need help locating a book, just ask at the Reference or Circulation Desks.
