8. Link Out from Citation to Article
|
Article Linker / "Find it at Averett" works with the NISO OpenURL standard to "link out" from citations in one database to full text documents in another OpenURL compliant database.
If an article is not available in the 20,000 journals licensed by Averett, the OpenURL allows you to populate an interlibrary loan request with the same citation. |
|
When you see a citation with no full text in your current database, click on the Article Linker logo or "Find it at Averett." A pop-up window displays your citation and options for acquiring a copy of the article. |
| |
"Article" takes you directly to a full text copy in an alternate database. This is the best option, though it sometimes fails due to insufficient information from journal publishers.
"Journal" links to the journal title in an alternate database. Browse until you find the volume and issue cited.
"Database" links to the search interface of an alternate database, where you can search for the article using information in the citation.
Note: The title and pagination of a citation may vary, especially for different editions of a newspaper. Search by keywords in title and author's last name if you have trouble locating the article. |
If there are no online copies available at Averett, you may see references to:
Current Periodicals
Bound Periodicals
Microfilm Periodicals
Microfiche Periodicals
Check the citation to make sure dates match, then visit the library to retrieve the article. (GPS students may request document delivery.) |
"Sorry, we did not find a copy at Averett"
|
If an article is not available at Averett and you have a few days to complete your assignment, click "Interlibrary Loan Form" on the Article Linker pop-up window to request the article from another library.
The Interlibrary Loan form will be populated automatically with the article details. You then fill in your name and delivery information. For most articles and book chapters, you can expect to receive an electronic copy in 2-5 days. |
|
Locate a database citation for an article not found at Averett, and request a copy of the article from Interlibrary Loan. |
