Ferrum Earns Top Seed

The Ferrum College Panthers finished their 2004 conference schedule with a 16-5 league mark to claim the regular season championship title. They are also the number one seed in this week’s USA South Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by the City of Danville. The tournament will start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Dan Daniel Park.

Ferrum (24-8, 16-5 USA South) will host the eighth seeded Hornets of Shenandoah University (21-18, 7-14 USA South) in the 10 a.m. opener. The four versus five seed game will follow at 1:15 p.m. That contest features fourth seeded Methodist College (19-15, 10-11 USA South) and number five North Carolina Wesleyan College (21-15, 10-11 USA South).

The bottom of half of the bracket includes a match up between second seeded Christopher Newport University (22-11, 14-7 USA South) and Greensboro College (20-15, 8-13 USA South), the tournament’s seventh seed. That game will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Third seed Averett University (20-18, 11-10 USA South) and Chowan College (18-19, 8-13 USA South), the sixth seeded team in the tournament, will conclude the action Wednesday night. That game is tentatively slated for a 7:45 p.m. start.
