Student Leader Spotlight: Shona Cooper
Shona is a junior that has found her way all the way across the pond to AU. Originally from Chichester, England, Shona now calls Averett home. She keeps busy on campus as an Equestrian Studies major; focusing on management and global marketing. In addition to her busy class schedule, Shona spends time working in our student center and with our IDS 101 program. Why did you choose to attend Averett? I came to Averett because of the equestrian program. It was one of the few I looked at that had a "hands on" program that didn’t evolve around equine science. What is your favorite thing about Averett? The size of the school; the campus is small and easy to get around (you can leave for class 5 minutes ahead of time and not be late) and the student body is small, making it easy to meet new people. What are your plans once you graduate? Find a job in the equine industry. How do you balance your involvement with your academics? Good question…I’m not quite sure how I manage; I’ve always been highly involved because I hate sitting around with nothing to do. Time management is key – I wouldn’t survive without my planner. What is the most rewarding part of being involved on campus? I get to do something for my campus and myself while enjoying time spent with my friends also involved in the organization. What is your favorite thing to do on campus or in the area? Hourseback riding! What advice would you give to new students? Take advantage of the opportunities given to you while you’re here.
