New Student Orientation: Parent Schedule

Friday

Check-In

9:00am – 9:45am

Fugate Residence Hall

Students will receive their name tags and room key. You’ll both get schedules

Opening Session

10:00am – 10:30am

Welcome from the AU administration and an overview of the next two days.

Role as a Parent (Part I)

10:30am – 11:00am

Pritchett Auditorium

This session provides insight from the student point of view of what the first semester on campus may be like for you as your relationship develops with your student.

Student Services Fair/Lunch

11:00am – 1:00pm

Student Center

The student services fair is staffed with representatives from financial aid, student accounts, campus security, residence life, the registrar’s office, and our student success offices to answer questions and be sure you have everything in order. Orientation Leaders will provide direction as to which groups go to lunch or the fair first.

Role as a Parent (Part II)

1:00pm – 1:55 pm

A panel of staff from around campus will be on hand to talk about their areas and to answer questions you may have about support services provided at Averett.

Financial Aid Information Session

2:00pm – 2:55pm

Pritchett Auditorium

This is your opportunity to hear from the Dean for Financial Aid, Carl Bradsher, about what’s next regarding the financial aid and billing processes.

Free Time/Bookstore/Hotel Check-in

3:00pm – 3:55pm

This time is open for you to check into your hotel, visit the bookstore, explore Danville, or grab a snack before the afternoon’s programs.

Student Life at AU

4:00pm – 4:55pm

Pritchett Auditorium

This session gives an insiders view into life outside the classroom. Information discussed includes campus policies, life on campus, security, and ways for students to get involved in life on campus.

The AU Experience: Student Perspectives

5:00pm – 5:55pm

By now you’ve heard plenty from the staff. This is your opportunity to hear from current students about their experiences at Averett University. Ask away – it is just you and the panel of students!

This is your opportunity to enjoy some desserts and casually meet with administrators and other staff of the university.

Get a bite to eat to start your day. Students are asked to gather their belongings and check out of their rooms during this time.

Welcome to college! This session introduces you and your student to the Averett University academic experience. You’ll learn what the AU classroom experience is all about including faculty expectations, academic resources, and more.

Academic Advising and Registration for Students

11:00am – 1:00pm

Various Locations

Although it may be tempting to join your student during his or her academic advising appointment, this is a time for your son or daughter to begin to develop a relationship with an academic advisor. It is important for them to develop this relationship on their own since it will continue throughout the upcoming year.

Lunch

11:00am – 1:30pm

Dining Hall (Student Center)

We’ll have boxed lunches available for you to pick you as you finish your day and head home.
