New Student Orientation

Friday, August 22nd

9:30 am – 1:00 pm:  Multipurpose Room (Student Center)

New Student Check-In (Residential and Commuters)

Keys, NSO information and more!  Your first stop on campus will only take a few minutes and then you will be on your way and ready to move in.

1:00 pm – 4:00 pm:  Multipurpose Room (Student Center)

New Student Check-In (Late paid students)

Students who enrolled for the fall semester after August 1st have probably not had the time to complete everything needed to start the semester.  In order to take care of all of this business, we ask that you check-in between 1:00-4:00pm.  You will receive your keys and NSO information, but you will also have an opportunity to take care of business with various offices while here.

Student Services Fair

This is your chance to take care of business.  You can get your student ID, meet with Financial Aid, and get information from a variety of campus resources.  Swing through sometime during the morning while you have a break.

After a long day of moving in…its time to relax!  Enjoy your first meal on campus with your family and new friends at AU.

Welcome/Opening Session

Welcome to AU!  The coming days will be exciting, exhausting, and informative.  Several of our administrators and faculty want to welcome you to your first year as we start the Orientation weekend.

Parent Information Session

We know that its not just students that have questions about what the first year will hold.  Several staff members from various offices, students, and faculty will join us to help answer your questions and provide some information for parents as you say good-by to your students and prepare to head home.

Time with OL

Spend some quality time with your OL’s getting to know your group and learning about AU.  You will meet your OL outside after the welcome session and go to your meeting place.

8:00 pm – Time to Say Good-By

By now you and your parents should be reassured that you are ready for the coming semester and will be ok on your own.  Take a few minutes to say good-by to the family and then get right back into the swing of things.

Saturday, August 23rd

8:00 am – 9:00 am:  Dining Hall (Student Center)

Breakfast

The most important meal of the day!  Join us over in the dining hall and get the day started off right.  Your OL will be in the dining hall to meet you to take the group over to the morning session.

9:15 am – 9:30 am:  Pritchett Auditorium (Pritchett Hall)

Getting the Morning Started

The first night is over!  Now the fun really begins.  The day will be full of information and fun…take a few minutes with everyone to get things rolling.

Time with OL

Your OL is a great source of information.  They will spend some time with each group going over information to help you be successful during your first year here at AU.

10:45 am – 12:00pm:  Various Locations

Computer Information Sessions & Student Life Information Sessions

AU Email, Blackboard, and IQ Web…what do they all mean and how do you use them?  This is the place to find out.  Technology and communication are important for all students.  This will be your best source of information for all of the above.

Parking, meal plans, and policies oh my!  This session will cover some of the basic things that students need to know as they begin the fall semester.

Lunch

Take a break, kick back, and enjoy the great food on campus!

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm:  Blount Chapel (Frith Hall)

Stafford Loan Counseling

Getting college paid for may not be on your mind, but it is still important.  All students must attend this session in order to receive their financial aid package.

2:00 – 3:00:  Blount Chapel (Frith Hall)

CIRP Survey

All new students must complete the CIRP Survey during this time.  Freshmen football players have already completed the survey and do not need to attend.

Math Placement Test

Not sure what math classes to take at AU?  Don’t worry; this assessment will help us place you in appropriate math classes.  Once again, not all students will need to take the assessment; many took it over the summer and others will transfer in enough math credits to keep this process moving.  Someone at check-in will let you know if you need to complete the assessment during Orientation.

Take a break…sleep in…and relax!

11:00 am – 11:30 am:  Blount Chapel (Frith Hall)

Chapel Service

Join some of our religious organizations on campus for Sunday morning chapel service.

Lunch

Take a break, kick back, and enjoy the great food on campus!

Cougar Challenge

Think you have what it takes to win?  On Saturday your OL will go over some of the activities of the Cougar Challenge.  Each Orientation group will go head to head to see who can claim victory.

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm:  Student Center Parking Lot

Wal-Mart Runs

Forget something at home?  No problem.  Vans will be leaving from the Student Center parking lot at 3:30, 4:00, and 4:30 to take students around town to Wal-Mart and other locations

5:00 pm – 6:30 pm:  Dining Hall (Student Center)

Academic Advising and Registration

All new students will meet with academic advisors and complete their fall schedules.  A copy of your advising appointment will be in your packet.  DO NOT miss this appointment.
