Transfer Orientation
Wednesday, August 20th 10:00am – 3:00pm: Residence Life Office (Davenport Hall) Residential Transfer Student Check-In Students living on campus can move in on Wednesday. You will be checking in with the Residence Life Office in Davenport Hall. Once you arrive, you will receive your keys as well as a schedule for Orientation activities that begin on Thursday. Don’t forget to get your ID made once you arrive…you will need it to access the building after dark. Thursday, August 21st 8:00am – 8:30am: Blount Chapel (Frith Hall) Check-In All new transfer students should plan to check-in for the day during this time. You will get your schedule for the day, meet some of our current students, and begin to get some of the questions you have answered. 8:30 – 8:45: Blount Chapel (Frith Hall) Welcome Mr. Charles Harris, Vice President of Student Services, Dr. Jeff Fager, Dean of Arts and Sciences, and Joey Wilkerson, Director of Student Activities will fill you in on what to expect for the rest of the day and over the coming months at AU. 8:45 – 9:45: Blount Chapel (Frith Hall) Math Placement Test Not sure what math classes to take at AU? Don’t worry; this assessment will help us place you in appropriate math classes. Once again, not all students will need to take the assessment; many took it over the summer and others will transfer in enough math credits to keep this process moving. Someone at check-in will let you know if you need to complete the assessment during Orientation. 8:45 – 11:00: Multipurpose Room (Student Center) Student Services Fair This is your chance to take care of business. You can get your student ID, meet with Financial Aid, and get information from a variety of campus resources. Swing through sometime during the morning while you have a break. 11:00 – 11:30: Blount Chapel (Frith Hall) Computer Information Session AU Email, Blackboard, and IQ Web…what do they all mean and how do you use them? This is the place to find out. Technology and communication are important for all students. This will be your best source of information for all of the above. 11:30 – 12:00pm: Blount Chapel (Frith Hall) Student Life Information Session Parking, meal plans, and policies oh my! While you have all been students at other institutions, there is some information that is unique to AU that we want to make sure you know. This session will cover some of the basic things that students need to know as they begin the fall semester. 12:00 – 1:00: Dining Hall (Student Center) Lunch The most important part of the day! Take a break, kick back, and enjoy the great food on campus! 1:00 – 4:00: Various Locations Academic Advising Appointments The final piece of the day! During the summer, and as you check-in, you will be assigned an appointment during the afternoon with your advisor. This is an opportunity for you to sit down with your advisor, go through your plan of study, and get your classes for the fall lined up. |
